The Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) promotes excellence in higher education by recognising, rewarding and supporting teachers and professional staff through a suite of award, fellowship and grant schemes. The ALTC aims to enhance the student learning experience by supporting quality teaching and practice. More than $2 million is presented to the Citation winners, with each recipient receiving $10,000. Ceremonies were held across Australia in August.
In particular we congratulate the following Oxford University Press Australia authors:
- Professor Joy Higgs (Communicating in the Health Sciences, 2nd edn, OUP, 2008), for two decades of exemplary contributions that blend personal and research capabilities development with postgraduate research training through supervision, mentoring, group learning and scholarship
- Professor Stephen Lamble (The Daily Miracle: An Introduction to Journalism, 3rd edn, OUP, 2006), for creating innovative curricula and developing research informed teaching resources that enhance graduate employment opportunities in the profession of journalism
- Dr Stuart Murray (The Globalization of World Politics: Case Studies from Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific, OUP, 2008), for in-class diplomacy simulations that expose students to the art of negotiation and cultivate critical, innovative and imaginative solutions to diverse conflict situations
- Professor Stephen Tanner (Feature Writing: Telling the Story, OUP, 2008), for the engagement of media professionals and the local community in the ongoing implementation, review and refinement of a responsive and creative curriculum for journalism students
- Robina Xavier (Public Relations Campaigns, OUP, 2008), for sustained leadership and innovation in creating an engaging learning environment for undergraduate students of public relations.
