Feature writing exercise

Note to lecturers:
This exercise asks students to prepare a portfolio and a brief story pitch suitable to a specific publication. This exercise may also be formatted as a 10-minute class presentation.

If necessary, you can print out and photocopy this handout for use in tutorials.

Learning outcomes:

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of your media outlet;
• Lively and informative portfolio or presentation that includes all relevant information as well as visual material such as pages from the publication;
• Feasible story pitch that matches the publication’s market;
• Correct language use.
