Moving from Assessment to Instruction

Anne Bayetto

Read, Record, Respond is a program that takes educators through a cycle of oral reading assessment, analysis of students' reading responses, identification of learning goals, and selection of instructional approaches to teach specific reading strategies.

The program provides educators with a number of probing checklists as well as professional support videos, customisable worksheets linked to the Oxford Literacy guided reading texts, and accuracy-rate conversion charts.

A Parents' Guide is also included, which provides educators with a ready-made booklet of reading strategies to distribute to parents.

Read, Record, Respond includes professional support for the following:
•    Gathering background evidence and data
•    Using the RRR record sheet
•    Planning for instruction
•    Guiding parents
•    Checklists for assessment and diagnosis
•    Further resources, including the Oxford Wordlist, Freebody and Luke’s Four Resources and guidance for helping students learn to talk about text

The Read, Record, Respond CD-ROM contains professional support resources designed to facilitate the collection of data and strategic planning. These resources are ideal for small-group, in-school professional training.
