Activity Cards and Sheets

The activity cards support small-group guided instruction to promote the revisiting of core mathematical concepts through:

  • hands-on, kinaesthetic and visual learning.
  • contextual acitivites to engage the learner.

 

Professional Support

The Professional Support materials provide teachers with pre-assessment tasks and extension activities linked to each of the activity cards to:

  • increase confidence in teaching mathematics and the use of mathematical language.
  • increase student engagement resulting from learning experiences.
  • increase teacher expectations of their students in mathematics.
  • change (and improve) understanding of maths concepts and associated pedagogical practices.

 

Maths Around Us

This new theme of Oxford Literacy assists students to see mathematics in their everyday activities.

  • Eight guided reading packs covering Levels 1 - 23.
  • Each pack contains six student copies of the one text plus one teaching version.
  • Each title supports a number of mathematical concepts.

 

eBooks and Digital Lessons

CD-ROM contains eBook versions of the Maths Around Us titles. The interactives provide whole-class teaching objects that support the use of the activity cards.

Both Eva and Elizabeth are members of the Faculty of Education at the Australian Catholic University, Queensland. Eva is the Principal Project Officer: RoleM and Senior Research Fellow and Elizabeth is a Mathematics Educator and Professor of Education. Building Mathematics in the Early Years sessions will engage early years’ educators as Eva and Elizabeth share their insights into development of oral language and representations in mathematics, gathered from their extensive research with Indigenous students.
