The My Set 1 Speed Sounds Book can be sent home to help children practise reading and writing the Set 1 sounds they have been learning in class. The inside cover includes comprehensive notes for parents. The date can be written on each page so parents can see which letters their child has been learning. Each page shows the letter on one side and the mnemonic on the other to help children remember the sound. Each page also includes plenty of space for children to write the letter and a short phrase to help children remember how to write it.

Author Ruth Miskin

Ruth Miskin is one of the UKs leading authorities on teaching children to read. She has many years experience as a head teacher, teacher trainer and consultant in phonics and literacy, working with primary and secondary schools throughout the UK. Ruth has been an adviser to the government on many aspects of literacy teaching since 1997. Her work has been featured both by Newsnight on BBC1 and Dispatches on Channel 4. Ruth was awarded an OBE for services to Education in 2011.
