The Handbooks contain detailed teaching notes for teaching Speed Sounds Sets 1, 2 and 3, and for reading and writing lessons for the Red to Grey Storybooks, Non-fiction books and Get Writing! books.

• Handbook 1 sample pages include a blueprint lesson plan for a Set 1 Speed Sound Lesson and the reading and writing activities for the Green Level Storybook – Black Hat Bob.
• Handbook 2 sample pages include the lesson plan for the Blue Level Storybook - Barker

This Handbook contains everything you need to lead Read Write Inc. in your school. It provides the Reading Leader with advice on how to build an effective team of reading teachers, with guidance for day-to-day coaching and monitoring.

The sample pages include steps to get started, common FAQs, timetables, and the entry assessment.

The Red Ditty books allow children to practise reading short decodable passages. They include practise of the Read Write Inc. Phonics Set 1 sounds. Children are expected to reach this stage in Foundation.

The Green decodable stories provide practice for children learning to read. The Storybooks include texts in a range of engaging genres such as fairy tales, myths and legends, rhyming stories and familiar settings. Children are expected to reach Green at the end of Foundation.

The Blue decodable stories provide practice for children learning to read. The Storybooks include texts in a range of engaging genres such as fairy tales, myths and legends, rhyming stories and familiar settings. Children are expected to reach Blue at the end of year 1/beginning of year 2.

The Get Writing! Books contain a wide range of writing activities which are closely linked to the Storybooks and Non-fiction books.
